The
University of Catania, Mathematics and Informatics Department, as part of its didactic proposal in its "Multimedia Course", taught by Prof. Sebastiano Battiato, uses the book
Learning Sound Technique as one of its reference textbooks.
The course explores theories and techniques that specifically regard mono signals (audio) and bi-dimensional (images), without omitting an introduction to the basic concepts of the digital video world and its compression standards.
After a brief introduction (taxonomy and basic concepts) some algorithmic instruments useful for manipulation/generation of digital audio signals, shall be presented. Moreover, the most widespread audio codification techniques shall be described.
